Narrative:
We heard and responded to an altitude and heading change from air carrier xyz 'heavy.' the first officer answered/repeated the clearance in a question like tone because we were not a heavy. The captain initiated the descent west/O verification because someone cut in on the controller. TCASII shortly thereafter gave a slow descent call, followed by a climb advisory. The controller came on and gave us a climb at the same time. We never visually saw the TCASII TA/RA aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MLG FLT CREW EXPERIENCES ALT EXCURSION DUE TCASII RA WHILE IN DESCENT ON SCURRY STAR TO DFW.
Narrative: WE HEARD AND RESPONDED TO AN ALT AND HDG CHANGE FROM ACR XYZ 'HVY.' THE F/O ANSWERED/REPEATED THE CLRNC IN A QUESTION LIKE TONE BECAUSE WE WERE NOT A HVY. THE CAPT INITIATED THE DSNT W/O VERIFICATION BECAUSE SOMEONE CUT IN ON THE CTLR. TCASII SHORTLY THEREAFTER GAVE A SLOW DSNT CALL, FOLLOWED BY A CLB ADVISORY. THE CTLR CAME ON AND GAVE US A CLB AT THE SAME TIME. WE NEVER VISUALLY SAW THE TCASII TA/RA ACFT.
