Narrative:

Was cleared, 'for immediate takeoff on 2 mi final.' student was slow to react--evidently misunderstood clearance. Pulled out on the runway and stopped, although I told him twice to continue rolling on the takeoff. Finally pushed the throttles up, and unfortunately, as we rotated, the commuter was told to go around by tower. Student was a military pilot and always stops on runway to run up engines. I should have taken aircraft control sooner. I suspect though that the aircraft on final was closer than 2 mi, because our delay was minimal.

Title: SMT SLOW TO RESPOND WHEN CLEARED FOR IMMEDIATE TKOF. COMMUTER FORCED TO GO AROUND.

Narrative: WAS CLRED, 'FOR IMMEDIATE TKOF ON 2 MI FINAL.' STUDENT WAS SLOW TO REACT--EVIDENTLY MISUNDERSTOOD CLRNC. PULLED OUT ON THE RWY AND STOPPED, ALTHOUGH I TOLD HIM TWICE TO CONTINUE ROLLING ON THE TKOF. FINALLY PUSHED THE THROTTLES UP, AND UNFORTUNATELY, AS WE ROTATED, THE COMMUTER WAS TOLD TO GO AROUND BY TWR. STUDENT WAS A MIL PLT AND ALWAYS STOPS ON RWY TO RUN UP ENGS. I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN ACFT CTL SOONER. I SUSPECT THOUGH THAT THE ACFT ON FINAL WAS CLOSER THAN 2 MI, BECAUSE OUR DELAY WAS MINIMAL.
