Narrative:
Due to high oil temperature had to shut down #1 engine. Leveled at FL180, declared emergency and returned to lax. Only problem experienced was at each frequency change (3), we were asked to state fuel and passenger on board. A 2-M crew dealing with an abnormal increases the workload. These extra communication requests I feel were unnecessary and should be passed by ATC.
