Narrative:

After landing helicopter in ramp area at uncontrolled airport, engine speed was reduced to idle (63%) and controllers frictioned and latched. I exited aircraft to assist passenger and remove baggage from compartments with external access. This is standard operating practice with this type aircraft and situation. As passenger exited, 1 passenger picked up 2 1/2 yr old child and held above head, apparently forgetting about turning main rotor. No one was hurt; however, a witness reported the incident to the pilot who corrected the passenger. The passenger had flown aboard this type helicopter continuously for the past 5 yrs. He had been unaware of the rotor turning for some reason. The main rotor plane is approximately 10' AGL. The maximum height of the child was approximately 7' AGL. In the future passenger will immediately exit aircraft to a point outside the main rotor disc area west/O delay and will be briefed on helicopter hazards prior to flts.
