Narrative:
Purpose of the flight was to drop a medical patient off at his residence. The landing zone was the gentleman's front yard, which is located in a residential area. High recon showed the lz to be relatively tight, but acceptable. Wind conditions favored a northwest approach to the lz. On short final, it became evident that due to the proximity of neighboring houses, as well as the passenger's home, another landing zone should have been chosen for the comfort level of the passenger and area neighbors. Once committed, the approach was terminated with minimal clearance making it dangerous for all concerned. In retrospect, I was so intent on completing the mission as requested, I threw caution and safety to the wind. This will not happen again.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLT OF EMS HELICOPTER ATTEMPTING TO DROP OFF A PATIENT IN PATIENT'S HOME FRONT YARD MISCALCULATED THE EASE OF THE PROC AND CONCLUDED AFTERWARD THAT THE OPERATION WAS HAZARDOUS AND SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DONE.
Narrative: PURPOSE OF THE FLT WAS TO DROP A MEDICAL PATIENT OFF AT HIS RESIDENCE. THE LNDG ZONE WAS THE GENTLEMAN'S FRONT YARD, WHICH IS LOCATED IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. HIGH RECON SHOWED THE LZ TO BE RELATIVELY TIGHT, BUT ACCEPTABLE. WIND CONDITIONS FAVORED A NW APCH TO THE LZ. ON SHORT FINAL, IT BECAME EVIDENT THAT DUE TO THE PROX OF NEIGHBORING HOUSES, AS WELL AS THE PAX'S HOME, ANOTHER LNDG ZONE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHOSEN FOR THE COMFORT LEVEL OF THE PAX AND AREA NEIGHBORS. ONCE COMMITTED, THE APCH WAS TERMINATED WITH MINIMAL CLRNC MAKING IT DANGEROUS FOR ALL CONCERNED. IN RETROSPECT, I WAS SO INTENT ON COMPLETING THE MISSION AS REQUESTED, I THREW CAUTION AND SAFETY TO THE WIND. THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.
