Narrative:

Approaching hnl for landing on runway 4 the tower informed me they were turning the runways around and that I was cleared to land on runway 22R. At the time, I was approaching a downwind leg for runway 4 which put me on a short base leg for the new active runway. My altitude was 2000 ft required when approaching the downwind for runway 4. I was hard pressed to bleed off that much altitude in my 180 mph cruise aircraft. When I came over the numbers I believe I had a tailwind component and my touch down was hard. The gear gradually collapsed and I skidded about 100-150 yds on my belly. Damage: 1 broken torque tube and several teeth broken off a gear (part of the retract system). No other damage. Cause: down lock out of adjustment. Correction: proper adjustment of down lock system. When the FAA checked my licenses they found my physical had expired and that my BFR was overdue. In defense of my overdue BFR, all I can say is that my aircraft has a weight limitation in the rear cockpit and I haven't found a CFI that meets the weight requirement. As of july, 1991, my class 3 physical was reinstated. My biennial review was completed july, 1991, in an small aircraft.
