Narrative:

During our turn at hehaw, bwg transition, the first officer observed a light single engine low wing aircraft less than 500 ft away, crossing directly underneath from right to left. We had just been handed off from memphis center to nashville approach. Center didn't advise us of the traffic. First officer made inquiry about 'traffic' to bna approach, but they said they didn't see anything up there. Since this qualifies as a near miss I felt it should be reported.
