Narrative:
After being cleared for takeoff on runway 4L in ewr, the first officer advanced the throttles and the #2 EPR gauge failed (estimate speed less than 40 knots). I elected to reject the takeoff. We advised ewr tower, the flight attendants and informed the passenger. Upon return to the gate I wrote up the discrepancy in the aircraft logbook. After troubleshooting the mechanics determined the problem to be an intermittent transmitter.
