Narrative:
First officer and myself operated medium large transport aircraft of xx airlines on 5 legs on aug/mon/91, preflting each leg with exterior 'walkaround' as prescribed in company flight manual. We pay particular attention to static ports because aircraft are being repainted and going through maintenance phases. At no time did either of us notice any obstructions to static ports (tape, etc) yet I was notified by a company safety officer that the FAA had discovered tape on a static port days later that had probably been attached during a phase check by maintenance before we flew the aircraft.
