Narrative:
I do not exactly remember what altitude we were at, but I believe it was FL230. On a vector to intercept the OTT2 arrival north of ric. Assigned speed 300 KTS. Assigned intercept heading 040. I took this moment (just after we received the intercept vector) to get the bwi ATIS. As usual, this ATIS is received with great difficulty, due to exceptional interference of others on that same frequency. It took me 3 full times before I had all the necessary information. After the second message I looked up for a moment to see the captain turn quickly to the left and noticed that he had flown right through the 018 degree radial. I did not know it at that time, but as he later told me, he had accidentally flown through the radial and received a 330 degree heading to reintercept, which he did accordingly. Since the ATIS message of bwi is always quite lengthy and unreadable due to the interference, I was for some time unable to assist the captain in his flying and navigation duties. I suggest a different frequency and shorter ATIS could alleviate this problem. Another possibility is the use of 127.8 on the ground and a different frequency for the arrs.

Title: FLC CLAIMS BWI ATIS IS DIFFICULT TO RECEIVE AND THIS CAUSED THEM TO OVERSHOOT AN INTERCEPT RADIAL.
Narrative: I DO NOT EXACTLY REMEMBER WHAT ALT WE WERE AT, BUT I BELIEVE IT WAS FL230. ON A VECTOR TO INTERCEPT THE OTT2 ARR N OF RIC. ASSIGNED SPD 300 KTS. ASSIGNED INTERCEPT HDG 040. I TOOK THIS MOMENT (JUST AFTER WE RECEIVED THE INTERCEPT VECTOR) TO GET THE BWI ATIS. AS USUAL, THIS ATIS IS RECEIVED WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY, DUE TO EXCEPTIONAL INTERFERENCE OF OTHERS ON THAT SAME FREQ. IT TOOK ME 3 FULL TIMES BEFORE I HAD ALL THE NECESSARY INFO. AFTER THE SECOND MESSAGE I LOOKED UP FOR A MOMENT TO SEE THE CAPT TURN QUICKLY TO THE L AND NOTICED THAT HE HAD FLOWN RIGHT THROUGH THE 018 DEG RADIAL. I SUGGEST A DIFFERENT FREQ AND SHORTER ATIS COULD ALLEVIATE THIS PROBLEM. ANOTHER POSSIBILITY IS THE USE OF 127.8 ON THE GND AND A DIFFERENT FREQ FOR THE ARRS.
