Narrative:
Our aircraft was on J35 en route to stl at FL370 and visually idented a thunderstorm (level 5) overhead stl. Tops were well above our altitude (WX radar on board confirmed level 5 thunderstorm). We initially requested a deviation to the left approximately 60 mi from stl and center only authorized a 10 degree deviation left. Closer to stl we determined we needed a deviation further left and made requests to center at least 5 times for a further left deviation. Center did not respond to any of the requests to avoid thunderstorm penetration, we had to take it upon ourselves to deviation left. After the deviation, center finally called us back and stated, 'I'm sure glad you didn't hit that other aircraft'. We had TCASII on board and operational and it did not at any time during the maneuver show any aircraft within 10 mi of us. The controller's remarks were totally uncalled for and very unprofessional. If he had responded to our requests initially, this incident would not have happened.

Title: ACR MLG UNABLE TO GET A WX DEV MADE A TRACK CHANGE TO AVOID TSTM ACTIVITY. AN UNSOLICITED COMMENT FROM ARTCC UPSET THE RPTR.
Narrative: OUR ACFT WAS ON J35 ENRTE TO STL AT FL370 AND VISUALLY IDENTED A TSTM (LEVEL 5) OVERHEAD STL. TOPS WERE WELL ABOVE OUR ALT (WX RADAR ON BOARD CONFIRMED LEVEL 5 TSTM). WE INITIALLY REQUESTED A DEV TO THE L APPROX 60 MI FROM STL AND CENTER ONLY AUTHORIZED A 10 DEG DEV L. CLOSER TO STL WE DETERMINED WE NEEDED A DEV FURTHER L AND MADE REQUESTS TO CENTER AT LEAST 5 TIMES FOR A FURTHER L DEV. CENTER DID NOT RESPOND TO ANY OF THE REQUESTS TO AVOID TSTM PENETRATION, WE HAD TO TAKE IT UPON OURSELVES TO DEV L. AFTER THE DEV, CENTER FINALLY CALLED US BACK AND STATED, 'I'M SURE GLAD YOU DIDN'T HIT THAT OTHER ACFT'. WE HAD TCASII ON BOARD AND OPERATIONAL AND IT DID NOT AT ANY TIME DURING THE MANEUVER SHOW ANY ACFT WITHIN 10 MI OF US. THE CTLR'S REMARKS WERE TOTALLY UNCALLED FOR AND VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. IF HE HAD RESPONDED TO OUR REQUESTS INITIALLY, THIS INCIDENT WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.
