Narrative:
Approach control cleared us for an approach for left traffic. The arrival flown was a scurry for runway 17L. When we rolled out on final for 17L and change to tower frequency, after being cleared for visual, the tower said we were lined up with wrong runway. This was the first time we heard 18R mentioned as the landing runway for us. All of the crew monitored all radio transmissions. None of us ever heard 18R landing clearance. After changing to 18R and landing with no problems, I contacted approach control supervisor by telephone. He stated they were trying a new procedure that night, ie, 17L procedures, but land 18R. This was not given on ATIS, nor was it mentioned to us by approach control. No unsafe condition existed, but communication with pilot from approach control was poor.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF LGT FLEW SCURRY ARR FOR VISUAL TO 17L. ADVISED OF NEW PROC VISUAL TO 18R. FLT LANDED 18R WITHOUT DIFFICULTY.
Narrative: APCH CTL CLRED US FOR AN APCH FOR L TFC. THE ARR FLOWN WAS A SCURRY FOR RWY 17L. WHEN WE ROLLED OUT ON FINAL FOR 17L AND CHANGE TO TWR FREQ, AFTER BEING CLRED FOR VISUAL, THE TWR SAID WE WERE LINED UP WITH WRONG RWY. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME WE HEARD 18R MENTIONED AS THE LNDG RWY FOR US. ALL OF THE CREW MONITORED ALL RADIO TRANSMISSIONS. NONE OF US EVER HEARD 18R LNDG CLRNC. AFTER CHANGING TO 18R AND LNDG WITH NO PROBLEMS, I CONTACTED APCH CTL SUPVR BY TELEPHONE. HE STATED THEY WERE TRYING A NEW PROC THAT NIGHT, IE, 17L PROCS, BUT LAND 18R. THIS WAS NOT GIVEN ON ATIS, NOR WAS IT MENTIONED TO US BY APCH CTL. NO UNSAFE CONDITION EXISTED, BUT COM WITH PLT FROM APCH CTL WAS POOR.
