Narrative:
Cruise flight 33000. Autoplt engaged. TCASII operating. TCASII gave TA alert with red diamond indication on scope. Altitude of target showed +500 ft. Immediately followed by RA commanding 'descend'. Disconnected autoplt per company procedures and descended at 1000 FPM to approximately 32500 as commanded by TCASII. Instructed ATC of our actions immediately. Not able to locate traffic threat visually. Atl center said only traffic in area we described was military flight of 2 at FL280. Then said appeared 1 military aircraft's altitude reporting showed 33500.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF MLG AT FL330 HAD TCASII RA, DSNDED 500 FT TO CLR RA. CENTER SAID ONLY TFC WAS MIL FLT OF 2 AT FL280 THEN LATER SAID THEY HAD A SQUAWK FROM 1 OF THE MIL AT 33500.
Narrative: CRUISE FLT 33000. AUTOPLT ENGAGED. TCASII OPERATING. TCASII GAVE TA ALERT WITH RED DIAMOND INDICATION ON SCOPE. ALT OF TARGET SHOWED +500 FT. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY RA COMMANDING 'DSND'. DISCONNECTED AUTOPLT PER COMPANY PROCS AND DSNDED AT 1000 FPM TO APPROX 32500 AS COMMANDED BY TCASII. INSTRUCTED ATC OF OUR ACTIONS IMMEDIATELY. NOT ABLE TO LOCATE TFC THREAT VISUALLY. ATL CENTER SAID ONLY TFC IN AREA WE DESCRIBED WAS MIL FLT OF 2 AT FL280. THEN SAID APPEARED 1 MIL ACFT'S ALT RPTING SHOWED 33500.
