Narrative:

On climb out from lansing, mi, I was instructed to fly runway heading and climb to 3000 ft. At about 400 ft I lost radio communication. I immediately squawked 7600 (I should have put in 7700 for 1 min and then 7600). At this point I forgot what I had told ground of my intended direction of flight. I continued to fly runway heading (28) and climbed to 3000 ft. Once reaching 3000 ft I turned right on course to my home landing strip. I continued to maintain 3000 ft and squawking 7600. Once I was near davis field (at the edge of the arsa) I put in VFR 1200 and continued on my way. I saw no traffic on climb out and on my right turn to destination.
