Narrative:
On the sinca arrival into atl at 12000 ft and 250 KTS approach control gave us a descent to 8000 ft MSL as we crossed over canuk intersection on the arrival. At approximately 8800 ft, approach called traffic at our 12 O'clock position, 3 mi at 8500 ft. Almost simultaneously, TCASII 'TA' sounded. I reported no traffic in sight to the controller. He then gave us a right turn to a 320 degree heading. In the turn, at approximately 8300 ft, I spotted the traffic visually 200 ft above and about 1 mi moving from right to left across our nose. TCASII 'monitor vertical speed' alert sounded and I reported traffic to approach. Remainder of approach was normal. No evasive action was necessary. As a side note: TCASII operated as advertised and enabled us to spot the traffic sooner than we might have without it. I'm glad we were on an aircraft that had it installed!

Title: XING TFC SITUATION CREATES A POTENTIAL CONFLICT LTSS DURING APCH PROC STAR.
Narrative: ON THE SINCA ARR INTO ATL AT 12000 FT AND 250 KTS APCH CTL GAVE US A DSCNT TO 8000 FT MSL AS WE CROSSED OVER CANUK INTXN ON THE ARR. AT APPROX 8800 FT, APCH CALLED TFC AT OUR 12 O'CLOCK POS, 3 MI AT 8500 FT. ALMOST SIMULTANEOUSLY, TCASII 'TA' SOUNDED. I RPTED NO TFC IN SIGHT TO THE CTLR. HE THEN GAVE US A R TURN TO A 320 DEG HDG. IN THE TURN, AT APPROX 8300 FT, I SPOTTED THE TFC VISUALLY 200 FT ABOVE AND ABOUT 1 MI MOVING FROM R TO L ACROSS OUR NOSE. TCASII 'MONITOR VERT SPD' ALERT SOUNDED AND I RPTED TFC TO APCH. REMAINDER OF APCH WAS NORMAL. NO EVASIVE ACTION WAS NECESSARY. AS A SIDE NOTE: TCASII OPERATED AS ADVERTISED AND ENABLED US TO SPOT THE TFC SOONER THAN WE MIGHT HAVE WITHOUT IT. I'M GLAD WE WERE ON AN ACFT THAT HAD IT INSTALLED!
