Narrative:
Having been cleared for takeoff, I asked the first officer if the takeoff checks were completed. This created some confusion in the cockpit as the first officer wasn't sure of the intent of my inquiry. It took about 30 seconds of conversation to clear up this misunderstanding and the remainder of the flight proceeded without incident. This distraction created the possibility of missing radio communication which might have been important as we were on an active runway. Our communication with ATC was normal throughout the flight so I don't believe that we had missed any radio communication in those 30 seconds. This brings home the point that distrs should be actively dispatched or the aircraft should be taxied clear of the runway if the distraction is too involved.

Title: FLC OF LTT POISED FOR TKOF ROLL COMMUNICATED ON INTERPHONE FOR 30 SECONDS. MAY HAVE MISSED TWR INSTRUCTIONS.
Narrative: HAVING BEEN CLRED FOR TKOF, I ASKED THE FO IF THE TKOF CHKS WERE COMPLETED. THIS CREATED SOME CONFUSION IN THE COCKPIT AS THE FO WASN'T SURE OF THE INTENT OF MY INQUIRY. THIS BRINGS HOME THE POINT THAT DISTRS SHOULD BE ACTIVELY DISPATCHED OR THE ACFT SHOULD BE TAXIED CLR OF THE RWY IF THE DISTR IS TOO INVOLVED.
