Narrative:
Had transponder failure coming into fort lauderdale from the bahamas. Did not realize the problem until informed by approach control that they were not receiving beacon. Recycled, etc, to no avail. Was given turns for radar identify. Landed in fll no problem. Customs was going to fine me for no transponder but did not after explaining radio failure.

Title: TRANSPONDER OF SMA ACFT INOP APCHING AND DEPARTING FLL.
Narrative: HAD TRANSPONDER FAILURE COMING INTO FORT LAUDERDALE FROM THE BAHAMAS. DID NOT REALIZE THE PROBLEM UNTIL INFORMED BY APCH CTL THAT THEY WERE NOT RECEIVING BEACON. RECYCLED, ETC, TO NO AVAIL. WAS GIVEN TURNS FOR RADAR IDENT. LANDED IN FLL NO PROBLEM. CUSTOMS WAS GOING TO FINE ME FOR NO TRANSPONDER BUT DID NOT AFTER EXPLAINING RADIO FAILURE.
