Narrative:

Approach control had us at 4000 ft MSL and 10 mi out. Cleared to intercept localizer and cleared for the approach (ILS 6R). At this point we were well above the GS. Started down at a good rate to try and catch the GS. At 1700 ft and passing, the compass locator still above the GS, the localizer started to wave from side to side. Notified the tower that we were going around and used standard missed approach to 3000 ft MSL as published. At 2700 ft MSL, ATC cleared us to maintain 2000 ft. Advised them we would start down. At 2200 ft departure reclred us to 3000 ft and turn to a 150 degree heading. About halfway through the turn, the controller said we need to 'turn now' and we informed him that we were already half way through the turn. Second approach and landing was uneventful. Supplemental information from acn 193562: I think this incident could have been prevented if the turn on to the localizer/GS was better. In addition, the slow reply from ATC when we announced 'go around.'
