Narrative:
After missed approach to runway 26R at ontario we were directed to hold on the pdz VOR 078 radial, east, right turns. Our inbound heading was about 080. The first officer was flying. The correct procedure was to proceed outbound on the 078 radial for 1 min, however, the first officer turned right at the VOR. I was talking on the radio to company prior and during the holding entry and did not discover the incorrect turn until we were about half way through it. At that time since we were in VMC conditions I determined the best procedure would be to continue the turn and enter again once we were over the VOR. This is what we did. Prior to reaching the VOR (the first time) the first officer asked me about the holding pattern and I responded by reading back the holding clearance. I believe when he heard me say right turns that he thought I meant turn right at the VOR, which is what he did. Contributing factors: I was talking to the company and should have focused my attention on the holding entry. The holding pattern is not depicted on that approach plate which would have made entry much easier to visualize.
