Narrative:
After an IFR approach to sioux falls, sd, on runway 3, during the approach was told by controller that there was an aircraft (small) also on an approach to runway 33, and that he would hold short of runway 3. After we landed and during the rollout (while I was taking over control from the copilot and experiencing a somewhat grabbing brake) tower instructed us to what I understood to be 'turn right on runway 15 and monitor ground.' I started a right turn down 15, and about 45 degrees into the turn noticed the aircraft on the approach was on short final. I could've turned back to the left and went across the runway, but tower said to 'hold your position' and issued a go around to the aircraft. Then he issued us a clearance to taxi to the ramp. In discussing it with him later, he said to 'turn right on the 15 parallel' which was just past the runway (15). I think fatigue was a factor here. It was the last leg of a long day, and I just missed the instructions, and preoccupation with aircraft control due to the brake grabbing also was a factor.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MISHEARS CLRNC, TURNS ONTO ACTIVE RWY WITH OPPOSITE DIRECTION TFC ON APCH.
Narrative: AFTER AN IFR APCH TO SIOUX FALLS, SD, ON RWY 3, DURING THE APCH WAS TOLD BY CTLR THAT THERE WAS AN ACFT (SMALL) ALSO ON AN APCH TO RWY 33, AND THAT HE WOULD HOLD SHORT OF RWY 3. AFTER WE LANDED AND DURING THE ROLLOUT (WHILE I WAS TAKING OVER CTL FROM THE COPLT AND EXPERIENCING A SOMEWHAT GRABBING BRAKE) TWR INSTRUCTED US TO WHAT I UNDERSTOOD TO BE 'TURN R ON RWY 15 AND MONITOR GND.' I STARTED A R TURN DOWN 15, AND ABOUT 45 DEGS INTO THE TURN NOTICED THE ACFT ON THE APCH WAS ON SHORT FINAL. I COULD'VE TURNED BACK TO THE L AND WENT ACROSS THE RWY, BUT TWR SAID TO 'HOLD YOUR POS' AND ISSUED A GAR TO THE ACFT. THEN HE ISSUED US A CLRNC TO TAXI TO THE RAMP. IN DISCUSSING IT WITH HIM LATER, HE SAID TO 'TURN R ON THE 15 PARALLEL' WHICH WAS JUST PAST THE RWY (15). I THINK FATIGUE WAS A FACTOR HERE. IT WAS THE LAST LEG OF A LONG DAY, AND I JUST MISSED THE INSTRUCTIONS, AND PREOCCUPATION WITH ACFT CTL DUE TO THE BRAKE GRABBING ALSO WAS A FACTOR.
