Narrative:
On dec/xx/91 I departed stl on an IFR flight to iow. The WX was forecast to be VFR at destination. With cid reporting IFR to MVFR. When handed off to cid approach I was cleared to 2500 MSL and cleared direct to iow airport, about 2 mi south I saw the airport, cancelled IFR and set up for landing at iow. I set up to land and didn't feel comfortable with the approach and went around, and set up for another approach. The approach looked and felt better. I went through a checklist and turned final. When started to flare I felt and heard a noise that I didn't like and started to go around. The aircraft had a vibration. But I was able to maintain directional control of aircraft and made another approach and went through the checklist again and landed without incident. Upon shutdown there was damage to propellers, cowlings, and fuselage. Upon looking back I can only feel that I have to continue to verify everything, even if you triple and double triple check things. This situation is very difficult.

Title: ATX PLT HEARD A NOISE AT LEVEL OFF THAT HE DID NOT LIKE SO HE MADE A GAR. AFTER LNDG DISCOVERED DAMAGE TO PROPS, COWLINGS, AND FUSELAGE.
Narrative: ON DEC/XX/91 I DEPARTED STL ON AN IFR FLT TO IOW. THE WX WAS FORECAST TO BE VFR AT DEST. WITH CID RPTING IFR TO MVFR. WHEN HANDED OFF TO CID APCH I WAS CLRED TO 2500 MSL AND CLRED DIRECT TO IOW ARPT, ABOUT 2 MI S I SAW THE ARPT, CANCELLED IFR AND SET UP FOR LNDG AT IOW. I SET UP TO LAND AND DIDN'T FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THE APCH AND WENT AROUND, AND SET UP FOR ANOTHER APCH. THE APCH LOOKED AND FELT BETTER. I WENT THROUGH A CHKLIST AND TURNED FINAL. WHEN STARTED TO FLARE I FELT AND HEARD A NOISE THAT I DIDN'T LIKE AND STARTED TO GAR. THE ACFT HAD A VIBRATION. BUT I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CTL OF ACFT AND MADE ANOTHER APCH AND WENT THROUGH THE CHKLIST AGAIN AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. UPON SHUTDOWN THERE WAS DAMAGE TO PROPS, COWLINGS, AND FUSELAGE. UPON LOOKING BACK I CAN ONLY FEEL THAT I HAVE TO CONTINUE TO VERIFY EVERYTHING, EVEN IF YOU TRIPLE AND DOUBLE TRIPLE CHK THINGS. THIS SITUATION IS VERY DIFFICULT.
