Narrative:

Incident occurred on my initial line check as captain on the aircraft. The copilot was an instructor captain giving me the line check. Also an FAA inspector was observing the line check. While being marshalled into gate, the aircraft that I was taxiing made wingtip contact with a parked widebody transport at next gate. As I approached the gate it was apparent that we would be parked quite close to the widebody transport. My taxi speed was very slow as I watched both the marshaller for centerline guidance and the wing walker for 'thumbs up' clearance. The signals that I was being given indicated that the aircraft was on centerline with adequate separation. In preparation for stopping at the gate I looked forward at the marshaller. He was looking at the wing walker and then signaled for me to stop the aircraft short of the gate. It was not an emergency stop signal. I stopped quickly, but the signal was given too late to avoid contact. Both the IOE instructor and I were vigilant and cautious as I taxied in. There were no distrs in the cockpit and the only conversation related directly to parking the aircraft.
