Narrative:
Flight was cleared to tower frequency runway 9 iah. We switched and were told to hold short which we did. We told tower we would need a couple mins. 'Let me know when you are ready', said tower. An aircraft landed and I told the first officer to let tower know we were ready and then tower cleared us to position and hold. The flight engineer made the announcement to the cabin, and the first officer reported to tower position and hold. The landing aircraft was asked to take the next high speed and said he could not due to runway condition being slippery. Then the tower cleared 2 aircraft to land on runway 9. The tower then asked if we were in position and we replied yes. He then told us we were given hold short. The aircraft #1 for landing was sent around and we were then cleared for takeoff. Tower was checked with when we landed in ewr and no one was aware of the incident. We should not be kept without knowing what happened on the tapes. At least a courtesy call should have been made reference who was right or wrong. I don't believe 3 of us crew members were wrong but we all did not like the inference we were. Safety wise, this was very much on our minds during the rest of the flight which used up some of our concentration which should be there for other things.

Title: FLC OF LGT HEARD TWR CLR THEM POS AND HOLD. ACFT ON FINAL APCH WERE THEN CLRED FOR LNDG, ESTABLISHED WITH TWR RPTR WAS ON RWY IN POST, TFC SENT AROUND.
Narrative: FLT WAS CLRED TO TWR FREQ RWY 9 IAH. WE SWITCHED AND WERE TOLD TO HOLD SHORT WHICH WE DID. WE TOLD TWR WE WOULD NEED A COUPLE MINS. 'LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU ARE READY', SAID TWR. AN ACFT LANDED AND I TOLD THE FO TO LET TWR KNOW WE WERE READY AND THEN TWR CLRED US TO POS AND HOLD. THE FLT ENGINEER MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE CABIN, AND THE FO RPTED TO TWR POS AND HOLD. THE LNDG ACFT WAS ASKED TO TAKE THE NEXT HIGH SPD AND SAID HE COULD NOT DUE TO RWY CONDITION BEING SLIPPERY. THEN THE TWR CLRED 2 ACFT TO LAND ON RWY 9. THE TWR THEN ASKED IF WE WERE IN POS AND WE REPLIED YES. HE THEN TOLD US WE WERE GIVEN HOLD SHORT. THE ACFT #1 FOR LNDG WAS SENT AROUND AND WE WERE THEN CLRED FOR TKOF. TWR WAS CHKED WITH WHEN WE LANDED IN EWR AND NO ONE WAS AWARE OF THE INCIDENT. WE SHOULD NOT BE KEPT WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT HAPPENED ON THE TAPES. AT LEAST A COURTESY CALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE REF WHO WAS RIGHT OR WRONG. I DON'T BELIEVE 3 OF US CREW MEMBERS WERE WRONG BUT WE ALL DID NOT LIKE THE INFERENCE WE WERE. SAFETY WISE, THIS WAS VERY MUCH ON OUR MINDS DURING THE REST OF THE FLT WHICH USED UP SOME OF OUR CONCENTRATION WHICH SHOULD BE THERE FOR OTHER THINGS.
