Narrative:

The aircraft was parked unattended at bangor, boston, and rochester airports in clear WX conditions, where they are parked on a daily basis. Sometime while the aircraft was parked, it was struck by a ground vehicle, and went unrpted. The aircraft was hit on the fuselage under the horizontal stabilizer on the first officer's side of the aircraft. Putting about a 20 inch groove down the side and taking off the paint, as is company policy, the first officer is supposed to do the final walk around while I am inside doing the weight and balance. While I was doing the weight and balance inside, the first officer was outside the aircraft and I assumed he was doing the final walk around. I came to find out later he was only checking the baggage door and not doing a complete walk around. So the scratch went unnoticed until we returned to our home base where the aircraft was towed in for routine maintenance. The mechanics had been notified by the baggage handler who saw the damage as I taxied over to the hangar and later that evening I was notified about the damage. The corrective action would be for the first officer to always do his walk around, as is company policy and for myself as captain is to never assume anything and always specifically ask the first officer if he did a final walk around.

Title: COMMUTER LTT DAMAGED WHILE PARKED AND DETECTED AFTER ARR AT HOME BASE BY CGP.

Narrative: THE ACFT WAS PARKED UNATTENDED AT BANGOR, BOSTON, AND ROCHESTER ARPTS IN CLR WX CONDITIONS, WHERE THEY ARE PARKED ON A DAILY BASIS. SOMETIME WHILE THE ACFT WAS PARKED, IT WAS STRUCK BY A GND VEHICLE, AND WENT UNRPTED. THE ACFT WAS HIT ON THE FUSELAGE UNDER THE HORIZ STABILIZER ON THE FO'S SIDE OF THE ACFT. PUTTING ABOUT A 20 INCH GROOVE DOWN THE SIDE AND TAKING OFF THE PAINT, AS IS COMPANY POLICY, THE FO IS SUPPOSED TO DO THE FINAL WALK AROUND WHILE I AM INSIDE DOING THE WT AND BAL. WHILE I WAS DOING THE WT AND BAL INSIDE, THE FO WAS OUTSIDE THE ACFT AND I ASSUMED HE WAS DOING THE FINAL WALK AROUND. I CAME TO FIND OUT LATER HE WAS ONLY CHKING THE BAGGAGE DOOR AND NOT DOING A COMPLETE WALK AROUND. SO THE SCRATCH WENT UNNOTICED UNTIL WE RETURNED TO OUR HOME BASE WHERE THE ACFT WAS TOWED IN FOR ROUTINE MAINT. THE MECHS HAD BEEN NOTIFIED BY THE BAGGAGE HANDLER WHO SAW THE DAMAGE AS I TAXIED OVER TO THE HANGAR AND LATER THAT EVENING I WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT THE DAMAGE. THE CORRECTIVE ACTION WOULD BE FOR THE FO TO ALWAYS DO HIS WALK AROUND, AS IS COMPANY POLICY AND FOR MYSELF AS CAPT IS TO NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING AND ALWAYS SPECIFICALLY ASK THE FO IF HE DID A FINAL WALK AROUND.
