Narrative:

After takeoff and during climb, smoke started to come into the cockpit from behind the panel. Captain called for the 02 masks and quick reference handbook. While we were reading the 'smoke in cockpit' checklist, left engine instruments indicated the left engine was going to fail. We shut down the left engine, secured cockpit and landed at sacramento executive airport without further clearance. I feel that our training more than prepared us for this emergency situation.
