Narrative:
Was given a heading by center (might have been patuxent approach) after being given vectors around (or for) traffic. Was to intercept V229 between leeah and gared intxns on an assigned heading of 250 degrees, then given direct harcum (hcm) VOR and after a few mins, given a handoff. Next controller advised I was in a restr area and assigned a new heading. I always assumed that ATC would not vector aircraft into restr or any special use airspace unless it was safe. Just 1 more thing to worry about. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states that a VOR which would have been part of his routing was OTS. Consequently center was issuing vectors to intercept the airway. He was not using own navigation. On handoff controller was rather rude so he indicated that he was on a vector and flying the assigned heading.

Title: SMA ON IFR FLT PLAN BEING VECTORED TO INTERCEPT AN AIRWAY. ON HDOF CTLR STATES HE IS IN A RESTRICTED AREA.
Narrative: WAS GIVEN A HDG BY CENTER (MIGHT HAVE BEEN PATUXENT APCH) AFTER BEING GIVEN VECTORS AROUND (OR FOR) TFC. WAS TO INTERCEPT V229 BTWN LEEAH AND GARED INTXNS ON AN ASSIGNED HDG OF 250 DEGS, THEN GIVEN DIRECT HARCUM (HCM) VOR AND AFTER A FEW MINS, GIVEN A HDOF. NEXT CTLR ADVISED I WAS IN A RESTR AREA AND ASSIGNED A NEW HDG. I ALWAYS ASSUMED THAT ATC WOULD NOT VECTOR ACFT INTO RESTR OR ANY SPECIAL USE AIRSPACE UNLESS IT WAS SAFE. JUST 1 MORE THING TO WORRY ABOUT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATES THAT A VOR WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN PART OF HIS RTING WAS OTS. CONSEQUENTLY CENTER WAS ISSUING VECTORS TO INTERCEPT THE AIRWAY. HE WAS NOT USING OWN NAV. ON HDOF CTLR WAS RATHER RUDE SO HE INDICATED THAT HE WAS ON A VECTOR AND FLYING THE ASSIGNED HDG.
