Narrative:
During cruise portion of flight, dtw-lga, first officer suffered severe discomfort after a small portion of crew meal steak became lodged in his throat. Attempts with the aid of an onboard physician failed to dislodge the obstruction. He was able to breath almost normally, nevertheless he was suffering a relatively high level of discomfort due to a continued choking sensation and inability to swallow. An emergency was declared with ATC and priority handling provided for the arrival into la guardia airport. With the concurrence of the first officer, an onboard extra crew member assumed the right seat and the stricken pilot took the extra crew member cockpit seat. Medical authorities met the flight in lga and sent patient to hospital for resolution. Ultimately, the food was passed into the stomach after a muscle relaxer medication applied.
