Narrative:

With an experienced copilot flying, we were cleared to climb to 12000 ft and given a left turn. With a light aircraft, the rate of climb was great. We were issued inbound traffic at 13000 ft. Even though my copilot began to level off, our altitude reached 12100-12140 ft. Our high rate of climb caused a TCASII alert. In my opinion safety was never compromised, although allowing a copilot extra latitude with distraction present may have been inappropriate.
