Narrative:
Takeoff out of midway on runway 22 we were told to climb to 3000 ft turn to heading 090 degrees since we were parked at a gate adjacent to runway 22 we only had a few mins to run the checklist and prepare for takeoff. After taking off and climbing to 1300 ft to start our turn I realized I didn't remember which way to turn to 090 degree heading. I tried to call tower but they were on frequency with someone. Finally broke through to ask direction of turn and found out it was a right turn back over the airport. At that time I looked at our altitude and we were 3200-3300 ft in less than 10 seconds and steadied on 090 degree heading. Contacted chicago departure and nothing was said out of the ordinary and flight proceeded normally, I called tower and apologized for confusion. They said thank you. Moral of story, don't get rushed into takeoff or anything else unless you are thoroughly briefed and know what is going on in critical phases of flight.
