Narrative:
While approximately 5 mi from the airport on a visual approach clearance for landing on runway 8L at ont, the left engine oil pressure light came on and the left oil pressure indicated 0. I told the first officer that we should perform a precautionary engine shutdown. At that moment a facsimile approached the cockpit and informed us of smoke in the cabin. Upon seeing the smoke it was decided that the source of the smoke be isolated, the left engine secured and a landing made without delay. Both bleed air switches were turned off and the left engine was shutdown. During this time we were handed off from ont approach to ont tower. The tower was told that the left engine was shutdown and there was smoke in the aircraft. An emergency was declared and we were given clearance to land on runway 8L at ont. After landing, the aircraft was stopped on taxiway 62P and the passenger were escorted from the aircraft. There were 4 passenger.

Narrative: WHILE APPROX 5 MI FROM THE ARPT ON A VISUAL APCH CLRNC FOR LNDG ON RWY 8L AT ONT, THE L ENG OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE L OIL PRESSURE INDICATED 0. I TOLD THE FO THAT WE SHOULD PERFORM A PRECAUTIONARY ENG SHUTDOWN. AT THAT MOMENT A FAX APCHED THE COCKPIT AND INFORMED US OF SMOKE IN THE CABIN. UPON SEEING THE SMOKE IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE SOURCE OF THE SMOKE BE ISOLATED, THE L ENG SECURED AND A LNDG MADE WITHOUT DELAY. BOTH BLEED AIR SWITCHES WERE TURNED OFF AND THE L ENG WAS SHUTDOWN. DURING THIS TIME WE WERE HANDED OFF FROM ONT APCH TO ONT TWR. THE TWR WAS TOLD THAT THE L ENG WAS SHUTDOWN AND THERE WAS SMOKE IN THE ACFT. AN EMER WAS DECLARED AND WE WERE GIVEN CLRNC TO LAND ON RWY 8L AT ONT. AFTER LNDG, THE ACFT WAS STOPPED ON TAXIWAY 62P AND THE PAX WERE ESCORTED FROM THE ACFT. THERE WERE 4 PAX.
