Narrative:
Our large transport was cleared into position and hold on runway 29R at msp at approximately PM20Z. We noted the landing rollout of an medium large transport on runway 29R as we taxied into position. After waiting approximately 1 1/2 mins in position with no visual traffic around us we inquired about the delay. Immediately the controller said, oh shit! And instructed another aircraft a cpr mdt, to make a missed approach or go around and simultaneously with this transmission a low flying aircraft came directly overhead and started executing a missed approach. The mdt on missed approach said that he had not seen us until in fact almost being on top of us. Very shortly thereafter tower cleared us for takeoff, almost routinely making no comment about the near miss. A routine takeoff and departure followed. My personal estimate was the aircraft overflying us was approximately 100 ft above us and on centerline as it crossed over us and perhaps came within 50- 100 ft from runway contact and missed approach was made.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NEAR GND COLLISION ON RWY BTWN LNDG DEP TFC IS AVOIDED THROUGH ISSUANCE OF GAR TO LNDG ACFT.
Narrative: OUR LGT WAS CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 29R AT MSP AT APPROX PM20Z. WE NOTED THE LNDG ROLLOUT OF AN MLG ON RWY 29R AS WE TAXIED INTO POS. AFTER WAITING APPROX 1 1/2 MINS IN POS WITH NO VISUAL TFC AROUND US WE INQUIRED ABOUT THE DELAY. IMMEDIATELY THE CTLR SAID, OH SHIT! AND INSTRUCTED ANOTHER ACFT A CPR MDT, TO MAKE A MISSED APCH OR GAR AND SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH THIS XMISSION A LOW FLYING ACFT CAME DIRECTLY OVERHEAD AND STARTED EXECUTING A MISSED APCH. THE MDT ON MISSED APCH SAID THAT HE HAD NOT SEEN US UNTIL IN FACT ALMOST BEING ON TOP OF US. VERY SHORTLY THEREAFTER TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF, ALMOST ROUTINELY MAKING NO COMMENT ABOUT THE NEAR MISS. A ROUTINE TKOF AND DEP FOLLOWED. MY PERSONAL ESTIMATE WAS THE ACFT OVERFLYING US WAS APPROX 100 FT ABOVE US AND ON CTRLINE AS IT CROSSED OVER US AND PERHAPS CAME WITHIN 50- 100 FT FROM RWY CONTACT AND MISSED APCH WAS MADE.
