Narrative:
Final controller advised cleared for a visual approach to follow another aircraft. Air carrier X was too close to that aircraft. So I slowed down. I felt a go around was a possibility so I stayed above (slightly) GS. The other aircraft cleared the runway with adequate spacing so I got back on glide path. At this point I was a little faster than normal and the aircraft floated a little. During my flare the tower asked if air carrier X could hold short of runway 27. My first officer replied 'negative.' the tower controller immediately cleared the other aircraft Y on runway 27 for takeoff. Sensing immediate danger, I put the aircraft on the runway (firmly) and applied maximum brakes and reverse. The tower controller realized that I was not going to stop in time, and cancelled the takeoff clearance. I stopped with my nose just across the 27 threshold. I didn't know exactly what to do at that point but quickly decided to exit runway 27 as fast as possible, since I couldn't see the other aircraft. Recommendation: insist that controllers follow their handbook.

Title: CTLR CLRED ACFT Y FOR TKOF MULTIPLE RWY OP INTERSECTING RWYS ACR X WAS LNDG. ACR X HAD LTSS FROM ACFT Y. SYS ERROR.
Narrative: FINAL CTLR ADVISED CLRED FOR A VISUAL APCH TO FOLLOW ANOTHER ACFT. ACR X WAS TOO CLOSE TO THAT ACFT. SO I SLOWED DOWN. I FELT A GAR WAS A POSSIBILITY SO I STAYED ABOVE (SLIGHTLY) GS. THE OTHER ACFT CLRED THE RWY WITH ADEQUATE SPACING SO I GOT BACK ON GLIDE PATH. AT THIS POINT I WAS A LITTLE FASTER THAN NORMAL AND THE ACFT FLOATED A LITTLE. DURING MY FLARE THE TWR ASKED IF ACR X COULD HOLD SHORT OF RWY 27. MY FO REPLIED 'NEGATIVE.' THE TWR CTLR IMMEDIATELY CLRED THE OTHER ACFT Y ON RWY 27 FOR TKOF. SENSING IMMEDIATE DANGER, I PUT THE ACFT ON THE RWY (FIRMLY) AND APPLIED MAX BRAKES AND REVERSE. THE TWR CTLR REALIZED THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO STOP IN TIME, AND CANCELLED THE TKOF CLRNC. I STOPPED WITH MY NOSE JUST ACROSS THE 27 THRESHOLD. I DIDN'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TO DO AT THAT POINT BUT QUICKLY DECIDED TO EXIT RWY 27 AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, SINCE I COULDN'T SEE THE OTHER ACFT. RECOMMENDATION: INSIST THAT CTLRS FOLLOW THEIR HANDBOOK.
