Narrative:
About 1/2 way I was in and out of clouds. At the time of altitude deviation there was turbulence and a rapid altitude change of about 500 ft. I leveled at 11000. I noticed the error at about the same time the center contacted me. I immediately returned to 10000. There were no major deviation after that. I believe the problem was caused by inexperience in mountain flying and the accompanying wind convection and windshear. Also almost all of my flying is done in the midwest and below 10000 ft. It probably took me longer to recognize, the altimeter reading difference between 10000 and 11000, than it should have.
