Narrative:
Prior to departing from stockton, ca, to reno, nevada, on a scheduled flight I pulled up the WX for our flight, one of the factors I looked for was if the forecast WX at my ETA of approximately early pm:30 was at or above my landing mins, as prescribed by the FARS. The forecast called for layers of scattered to broken clouds with an overcast and occasional 3/4 mi visibility with light snow showers. Knowing that reno (rno) has on ILS procedure I assumed that my landing min was 1/2 mi as with most ILS approach. Once airborne I decided to double check my landing mins in reno. It so happens that the low landing visibility is 1 mi, and based on the forecast I should not have taken off. When in fact we arrived at reno the WX was VFR, but I was wrong in assuming anything about an approach and its landing min. My complacency in my preflight planning comes from misplaced confidence in having flown the route and destination repetitively in the past yrs. No amount of experience should take precedence over a thorough preflight briefing.
