Narrative:
As the radar controller at PCU, small transport X departed VFR from the hattiesburg/laurel regional (pib) airport requesting IFR clearance. Flight plan information showed the aircraft should be off hattiesburg bobby left chain airport (hbg). Due to the similarity of the names of the airports involved, I had to spend valuable frequency time finding out which airport the pilot was off of. The names of the airport need to be changed due to multiple confusions by controllers and pilots as to which airport they are landing or departing. (The radar coverage in the hbg, pib, lul area is 4000 ft and above).

Title: CTLR CLAIMS THAT 3 ARPTS IN HATTIESBURG, MS, AREA ARE SIMILAR AND CAUSE BOTH PLTS AND CTLRS CONFUSION.
Narrative: AS THE RADAR CTLR AT PCU, SMT X DEPARTED VFR FROM THE HATTIESBURG/LAUREL REGIONAL (PIB) ARPT REQUESTING IFR CLRNC. FLT PLAN INFO SHOWED THE ACFT SHOULD BE OFF HATTIESBURG BOBBY L CHAIN ARPT (HBG). DUE TO THE SIMILARITY OF THE NAMES OF THE ARPTS INVOLVED, I HAD TO SPEND VALUABLE FREQ TIME FINDING OUT WHICH ARPT THE PLT WAS OFF OF. THE NAMES OF THE ARPT NEED TO BE CHANGED DUE TO MULTIPLE CONFUSIONS BY CTLRS AND PLTS AS TO WHICH ARPT THEY ARE LNDG OR DEPARTING. (THE RADAR COVERAGE IN THE HBG, PIB, LUL AREA IS 4000 FT AND ABOVE).
