Narrative:
Aircraft was at FL280 (flight plan altitude). Large transport-mdt turbulence was encountered during climb and at FL280. The seat belt sign was on and everyone was reminded to remain seated. A turbulence report was requested from ATC, and they reported smooth air below FL230 and above FL330. FL350 was requested. Large transport-mdt turbulence was also encountered at FL350. An altitude below FL230 was requested. Clearance to FL240 was issued. During descent severe turbulence was encountered at FL260. At FL240, altdevs of +/- 500 ft were experienced. Level flight could not be maintained. An immediate descent was requested and received. The aircraft was descended to FL220 where the ride was nearly smooth. There were no injuries or apparent damage. The duration of the turbulence was 30-45 seconds. The en route winds shown on the flight plan at FL330 were 260 degree/138. FMS winds were 260 degrees/1272. At FL250, winds were less than 90 KTS. Other aircraft in the area were reporting mdt turbulence.

Title: ACR HAS TURB AT CRUISE, REQUESTS HIGHER, THEN LOWER. MORE TURB, ALTDEV.
Narrative: ACFT WAS AT FL280 (FLT PLAN ALT). LGT-MDT TURB WAS ENCOUNTERED DURING CLB AND AT FL280. THE SEAT BELT SIGN WAS ON AND EVERYONE WAS REMINDED TO REMAIN SEATED. A TURB RPT WAS REQUESTED FROM ATC, AND THEY RPTED SMOOTH AIR BELOW FL230 AND ABOVE FL330. FL350 WAS REQUESTED. LGT-MDT TURB WAS ALSO ENCOUNTERED AT FL350. AN ALT BELOW FL230 WAS REQUESTED. CLRNC TO FL240 WAS ISSUED. DURING DSCNT SEVERE TURB WAS ENCOUNTERED AT FL260. AT FL240, ALTDEVS OF +/- 500 FT WERE EXPERIENCED. LEVEL FLT COULD NOT BE MAINTAINED. AN IMMEDIATE DSCNT WAS REQUESTED AND RECEIVED. THE ACFT WAS DSNDED TO FL220 WHERE THE RIDE WAS NEARLY SMOOTH. THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR APPARENT DAMAGE. THE DURATION OF THE TURB WAS 30-45 SECONDS. THE ENRTE WINDS SHOWN ON THE FLT PLAN AT FL330 WERE 260 DEG/138. FMS WINDS WERE 260 DEGS/1272. AT FL250, WINDS WERE LESS THAN 90 KTS. OTHER ACFT IN THE AREA WERE RPTING MDT TURB.
