Narrative:

Air carrier X on route from klax to rjaa at FL310, requested climb to FL350. A traffic check was accomplished and it was determined that FL350 was not available due to traffic 4 min in-trail. A further check indicated that FL330 was available. A climb clearance was issued to FL330. During a sector relief briefing, the relieving controller noticed that air carrier X and air carrier Y had only 8 min longitudinal separation vice the required 10 mins. Air carrier X was descended to FL310 and separation was regained at XX14 Z when the aircraft reported level.

Title: ACR X HAD LESS THAN STANDARD LONGITUDINAL SEPARATION FROM ACR Y IN OCEANIC CTL AIRSPACE. SYS ERROR.

Narrative: ACR X ON RTE FROM KLAX TO RJAA AT FL310, REQUESTED CLB TO FL350. A TFC CHK WAS ACCOMPLISHED AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT FL350 WAS NOT AVAILABLE DUE TO TFC 4 MIN IN-TRAIL. A FURTHER CHK INDICATED THAT FL330 WAS AVAILABLE. A CLB CLRNC WAS ISSUED TO FL330. DURING A SECTOR RELIEF BRIEFING, THE RELIEVING CTLR NOTICED THAT ACR X AND ACR Y HAD ONLY 8 MIN LONGITUDINAL SEPARATION VICE THE REQUIRED 10 MINS. ACR X WAS DSNDED TO FL310 AND SEPARATION WAS REGAINED AT XX14 Z WHEN THE ACFT RPTED LEVEL.
