Narrative:
We were in straight and level flight, approximately 50 mi southeast of ord at 11000 ft with the autoplt engaged when the aircraft went into a nose dive. We lost 500 ft before we were able to recover. We did not interfere with any other traffic that we know of, but ATC did remind us of our cleared altitude. Maintenance did check the autoplt.
