Narrative:
Ground told us to taxi via east, runway 4, right on I, the distance from the intersection of east and runway 4 to I was very, very short. Only a few ft. I had my taxi chart out, but captain did not. He was looking for signs. He never saw the sign nor the taxiway lights for I. The next taxiway was J which he passed thinking that taxiway I would follow. I realized that we were past I about the time that ground called. They seemed upset, though there was no apparent conflict. Captain apologized to ground. I apologized to captain.
