Narrative:
About 1 hour out of anchorage on a flight from anc-ord, a main deck cargo fire warning light illuminated steady. We asked for and received an ATC clearance to return to anc. The fire warning light later proved to be a false indication. The subject of this report concerns our failure to fill out a report on our subsequent overweight landing at anc. We landed at 639000 pounds, 9000 pounds over the maximum landing weight of 630000 pounds. (We used runway 14 at anc) since we did not fill out the required overweight landing report the aircraft flew 2 more legs until someone realized that an overweight landing inspection was required. I was not aware of the requirement for this report. In our company the requirement for this type of report is communicated by word of mouth. I think a better ground school would help.
