Narrative:
On approach to pbf 17 KM northwest, pine bluff radio contacted for airport advisory. 35 (runway) favored but light wind. One aircraft preparing for departure. No other reported. Announced intention to land 35. Near airport, decided to shoot ILS to 17 (runway) for practice to check-out instruments (recent radio work). Late final noted another aircraft in pattern for 35 but plenty of time (no conflict). Apparently, in the change-over of radio frequencys (VOR to ILS) and associated maneuvering, I failed to clearly transmit my intentions. It is possible that when I restarted my intent to land 17, I actually said '35.' at any rate, FSS expressed some surprise at the direction of my arrival and questioned me about it. Very friendly exchange. No problems. No conflicts but could have been. I can only emphasize that I realize how important correct communications is in the vicinity of uncontrolled airports, whether or not FSS/unicom may be actively transmitting advisories. I will increase my vigilance in the future.
