Narrative:

I was parked on special course for helicopter championships -- when given visual signal to enter start area. I was again motioned to stop and land aircraft at 1/3 the distance to start point. The judges were forward of my position, audience to my left. When I looked to my rear left I then saw aircraft Y passing by my aircraft in rear left hover. Missing my aircraft by 18 ft, I was on his blind side. Coordination of events and proper safety briefing of ground personnel would prevent future problems. After near miss, when aircraft Y crew was asked if I was in sight, they stated that they never saw me. Judges told to stay away from aircraft paths. This pilot expressed his displeasure about 2 aircraft positioned to each other's blind sides in windy conditions -- 18 KTS gusts to 40 KTS plus.
