Narrative:
While on a VFR part 91 flight, at 7500 ft, from south marsh 27A, a production platform to west delta production platform, I noticed 2 fgts make a fly-by of my helicopter. This was 28 NM south of the leeville VOR. Contacting ZHU on 128.10, I advised them of my location and intentions and was given a phone number to call. Upon calling and speaking to the south.D., I was advised of being in the ADIZ and not on a DVFR flight plan. On checking my track and LORAN coordinates en route, I was sure I had not penetrated the ADIZ inbound towards the coast. I was under the impression that a DVFR flight plan was to be filed in crossing the ADIZ inbound to the coast line. I make numerous trips of this type, and this is the first time in several yrs of being intercepted. After checking the aim, I am still unclr as to the proper procedure given that the entire gulf of mexico, with some exceptions, is part of the contiguous ADIZ. My company has applied, but not yet received, a discrete transponder code for such operations.
