Narrative:
I was flying in an small aircraft giving an instrument flight check. At the completion of the flight, we were on a visual approach to runway 22R at cmi. We approached the airport from the northwest and were on a modified right base for 22R. About 1 mi north of the airport, the other pilot in my aircraft and I both saw another aircraft moving from left to right ahead of us and about 100 ft above us. He apparently was on a left base for runway 18, however ATC never pointed him out to us or vice versa. Both aircraft were descending to land and we had to descend more rapidly and turn to the left to avoid a conflict or collision.

Narrative: I WAS FLYING IN AN SMA GIVING AN INSTRUMENT FLT CHK. AT THE COMPLETION OF THE FLT, WE WERE ON A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 22R AT CMI. WE APCHED THE ARPT FROM THE NW AND WERE ON A MODIFIED R BASE FOR 22R. ABOUT 1 MI N OF THE ARPT, THE OTHER PLT IN MY ACFT AND I BOTH SAW ANOTHER ACFT MOVING FROM L TO R AHEAD OF US AND ABOUT 100 FT ABOVE US. HE APPARENTLY WAS ON A L BASE FOR RWY 18, HOWEVER ATC NEVER POINTED HIM OUT TO US OR VICE VERSA. BOTH ACFT WERE DSNDING TO LAND AND WE HAD TO DSND MORE RAPIDLY AND TURN TO THE L TO AVOID A CONFLICT OR COLLISION.
