Narrative:
IFR flight from 49J to ptk. 49J's an uncontrolled airport, with clearance delivery frequency to sav approach control. I contacted sav approach via clearance delivery frequency and received clearance to destination prior to taxi, with instruction to recontact sav approach for release when prepared for departure. With that, I transmitted over (CTAF) our intention to taxi for departure. Runway 03. After taxi completion of checklist items I prepared to fit our departure into a continuous flow of arrs. (Airport was very busy at the time). After departure I contacted beaufort departure control per clearance instructions. They assigned a heading and altitude which I acknowledged. Shortly thereafter beaufort cleared us as filed and then asked if we had been cleared by sav. I responded, affirmative. Then beaufort said that sav had not yet released us at the time of our departure -- which was absolutely correct! That's all that was said and the remainder of the trip went smoothly, though it was a poor start. Cause: I did not feel well that morning. I just wanted to be home. The fact is, I shouldn't have flown at all. In my haste to get home, I disregard my degraded physical and mental state. I was so concerned about getting underway that I completely forgot to obtain a release prior to departure. Though this flight was strictly pleasure related, as a professional pilot, I am supposed to know better than to operate an aircraft when not feeling up to PAR. Yet I did, with get homeitis to boot -- never again.

Title: SMA PLT DEPARTS NON TWR ARPT IFR WITHOUT RELEASE.
Narrative: IFR FLT FROM 49J TO PTK. 49J'S AN UNCTLED ARPT, WITH CLRNC DELIVERY FREQ TO SAV APCH CTL. I CONTACTED SAV APCH VIA CLRNC DELIVERY FREQ AND RECEIVED CLRNC TO DEST PRIOR TO TAXI, WITH INSTRUCTION TO RECONTACT SAV APCH FOR RELEASE WHEN PREPARED FOR DEP. WITH THAT, I XMITTED OVER (CTAF) OUR INTENTION TO TAXI FOR DEP. RWY 03. AFTER TAXI COMPLETION OF CHKLIST ITEMS I PREPARED TO FIT OUR DEP INTO A CONTINUOUS FLOW OF ARRS. (ARPT WAS VERY BUSY AT THE TIME). AFTER DEP I CONTACTED BEAUFORT DEP CTL PER CLRNC INSTRUCTIONS. THEY ASSIGNED A HDG AND ALT WHICH I ACKNOWLEDGED. SHORTLY THEREAFTER BEAUFORT CLRED US AS FILED AND THEN ASKED IF WE HAD BEEN CLRED BY SAV. I RESPONDED, AFFIRMATIVE. THEN BEAUFORT SAID THAT SAV HAD NOT YET RELEASED US AT THE TIME OF OUR DEP -- WHICH WAS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! I WAS SO CONCERNED ABOUT GETTING UNDERWAY THAT I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO OBTAIN A RELEASE PRIOR TO DEP. THOUGH THIS FLT WAS STRICTLY PLEASURE RELATED, AS A PROFESSIONAL PLT, I AM SUPPOSED TO KNOW BETTER THAN TO OPERATE AN ACFT WHEN NOT FEELING UP TO PAR. YET I DID, WITH GET HOMEITIS TO BOOT -- NEVER AGAIN.
