Narrative:
I was flying over from hnl to molokai on a nonrevenue flight and would pick up a revenue flight back to hnl. We had another aircraft with a mechanical problem on mkk. So 2 of our company mechanics were flying over with me and were going to stay in mkk to repair the downed aircraft. As we made our way to the aircraft in hnl for departure I noticed they were carrying tools and some boxes. I just assumed they were parts. We boarded and departed for mkk. After landing in mkk I noticed in one of the boxes they had an aircraft battery. I was shocked that I had not noticed it earlier and that they did not inform me. It was stowed in the aft cargo area, but there was not haz-mat papers on board. More attention should be paid to cargo being brought aboard, even if it is by company employees who should know better.
