Narrative:
On arriving at hot springs I entered left base for 23 which is standard for malvern to hot springs. I called several times for the unicom, receiving no answer. It was after I was already landing that I noticed the sandbags, etc, on the runway. The X at the end of 23 was not noticeable from the air. Landing was made without incident. After picking up my passenger we left hot springs and flew over the area in which I pointed out that the X on 23 was not clearly visible (the X on 5 was clear). He agreed with me and said he was going to contact the FAA and inform them of this.
