Narrative:
Departed dfw after short delay, climbing through 240, flight attendant advised passenger in 11C was no longer on board and left briefcase under his seat. When no one claimed the briefcase and company could not locate passenger, we diverted to msy and evacuate/evacuationed the aircraft. Briefcase found to be of no danger. Crash, fire, and rescue did an excellent job in msy.

Title: UNCLAIMED BRIEFCASE ON BOARD MANDATES PIC'S DIVERSION TO ALTERNATE ARPT FOR PRECAUTIONARY LNDG.
Narrative: DEPARTED DFW AFTER SHORT DELAY, CLBING THROUGH 240, FLT ATTENDANT ADVISED PAX IN 11C WAS NO LONGER ON BOARD AND LEFT BRIEFCASE UNDER HIS SEAT. WHEN NO ONE CLAIMED THE BRIEFCASE AND COMPANY COULD NOT LOCATE PAX, WE DIVERTED TO MSY AND EVACED THE ACFT. BRIEFCASE FOUND TO BE OF NO DANGER. CRASH, FIRE, AND RESCUE DID AN EXCELLENT JOB IN MSY.
