Narrative:
Proceeded to use satcom for position reports with oakland control. Captain initiated position report and sent at N5000 W14000. Satisfactory SELCAL check had been performed on primary/secondary HF frequencys with san francisco co radio. At next position, N5300 W15000 captain sent report, and then queried via HF if reports were being received. San francisco/hnl said had not received and could not contact. I understood them to say a SELCAL code for our flight that was incorrect. Gave both positions. Said out of contact about one hour. I did not check for receipt of satcom reports since wasn't sending. Should have been alert to this. Satcom subsequently inoperative. No apparent conflicts with other traffic.

Title: A WDB CREW HAD A SATCOM FAILURE OVER THE PACIFIC AND WAS OUT OF COM FOR MORE THAN ONE HR. AN IMPROPER SELCAL SIGN HAD BEEN ENTERED.
Narrative: PROCEEDED TO USE SATCOM FOR POS RPTS WITH OAKLAND CTL. CAPT INITIATED POS RPT AND SENT AT N5000 W14000. SATISFACTORY SELCAL CHK HAD BEEN PERFORMED ON PRIMARY/SECONDARY HF FREQS WITH SAN FRANCISCO CO RADIO. AT NEXT POS, N5300 W15000 CAPT SENT RPT, AND THEN QUERIED VIA HF IF RPTS WERE BEING RECEIVED. SAN FRANCISCO/HNL SAID HAD NOT RECEIVED AND COULD NOT CONTACT. I UNDERSTOOD THEM TO SAY A SELCAL CODE FOR OUR FLT THAT WAS INCORRECT. GAVE BOTH POSITIONS. SAID OUT OF CONTACT ABOUT ONE HR. I DID NOT CHK FOR RECEIPT OF SATCOM RPTS SINCE WASN'T SENDING. SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALERT TO THIS. SATCOM SUBSEQUENTLY INOP. NO APPARENT CONFLICTS WITH OTHER TFC.
