Narrative:
Shortly after takeoff 'tailcone missing' light on annunciator panel noticed. Aircraft was leveled at 9000 ft and kept at a reduced airspeed of 220 KTS. Communication procedure for tailcone missing was reviewed and complied with. Returned for flyby over runway 3L dtw to ascertain if tailcone was in fact missing. We were unable to determine from inside the aircraft if the tailcone was on since the rear exit was a plug door and did not have a viewer. Dtw tower advised us that the tailcone appeared intact after flyby. We were then vectored for a visual approach to 3L in dtw and landed without further incident. After the aircraft was parked, maintenance discovered that 1 of the lanyards that keep the tailcone in place had slipped a couple of inches and caused the light to come on.

Title: FLC OF AIR CARRIER MLG ACFT RETURNED TO ARPT AFTER THE TAILCONE ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT CAME ON SHORTLY AFTER TKOF. SUBSEQUENT INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT 1 OF THE TAILCONE LATCHES HAD COME LOOSE.
Narrative: SHORTLY AFTER TKOF 'TAILCONE MISSING' LIGHT ON ANNUNCIATOR PANEL NOTICED. ACFT WAS LEVELED AT 9000 FT AND KEPT AT A REDUCED AIRSPD OF 220 KTS. COM PROC FOR TAILCONE MISSING WAS REVIEWED AND COMPLIED WITH. RETURNED FOR FLYBY OVER RWY 3L DTW TO ASCERTAIN IF TAILCONE WAS IN FACT MISSING. WE WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE FROM INSIDE THE ACFT IF THE TAILCONE WAS ON SINCE THE REAR EXIT WAS A PLUG DOOR AND DID NOT HAVE A VIEWER. DTW TWR ADVISED US THAT THE TAILCONE APPEARED INTACT AFTER FLYBY. WE WERE THEN VECTORED FOR A VISUAL APCH TO 3L IN DTW AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. AFTER THE ACFT WAS PARKED, MAINT DISCOVERED THAT 1 OF THE LANYARDS THAT KEEP THE TAILCONE IN PLACE HAD SLIPPED A COUPLE OF INCHES AND CAUSED THE LIGHT TO COME ON.
